Theft from Lazy J Liquor
September 29, 2021
On September 13th at about 1145 AM several individuals entered the Lazy J Liquor store on west 1st street. The male subject in the group distracted the clerk, while several female accomplices entered office area and stole several hundred dollars in cash. The suspects then made a purchase and departed eastbound on Highway 30 in a silver 4 door Mercedes with California plates.

Catalytic converter theft

The Ogallala Police Department needs your help in solving a recent theft.
Sometime in the last week of June, unknown persons cut out a catalytic converter from a Dodge truck while parked in front of Wolf Auto on West 1st street. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1000.

The Keith County Sheriff’s Office needs your help in solving a recent theft.
Between the evening of May 29th and morning of May 31st, unknown persons cut a lock on a trailer at a construction site at 1406 Lakeview road on the south side of Lake McConaughy. The suspects then stole nearly $17,000 worth of tools from the construction site including a Honda E3000 Generator, Makita Screed Head, four Bosch Jackhammers, a Spectrum Laser, and other construction tools.

Since the beginning of the year, the number of vehicle break-ins have increased significantly. Most of the thefts occurred on the West and North sides Ogallala, and nearly all of the vehicles were unlocked.

Crandal Creek Golf cart theft

The Keith County Sheriff’s Office needs your help in solving a recent theft.
In the overnight hours of September 21st unknown persons stole 6 Yamaha golf carts from Crandall Creek golf course near Ogallala. The suspects are believed to have used a triple axel stock trailer to load the golf carts. It is also believed that the same suspects have stolen golf carts from several other golf courses in Eastern Nebraska, as well as courses in Kansas and Missouri. The total loss of the theft totaled over $18,000.

Storage Unit Burglaries

The Ogallala Police Department needs your help in solving recent a burglary.
At about 1:30 AM Sunday April 12th an unknown person burglarized Rocky’s Self Storage Units located just north of Dairy Queen in Ogallala. Multiple locks to units were cut, and several units were entered. Total losses totaled over $5000 and some very unique items were stolen, including multiple small caliber Derringer pistols, photo albums, collectible coins, and other antique items. Keith County Burglaries

The Ogallala Police Department and Keith County Sheriff’s Office needs your help in solving recent burglaries.
The early months of 2020 saw a sharp spike in reported burglaries in the Keith County area.
Multiple buildings, both in Ogallala and around the county were broken into, leading to total losses well over $10,000. Multiple storage units were broken into, along with unoccupied residences and outbuildings. Many of the items stolen were power tools, along with some larger items including, generators, welders, and 4 wheelers. Law Enforcement encourages the public to report any suspicious happenings on their property, or to come forward with any proof of unauthorized persons on property, and to report any missing or stolen property.
Perkins County Landfill burglary.
February 12, 2020
On the morning of January 16, 2020 between 2:13 and 2:28 AM, two subjects broke into the maintenance shop at the J Bar J Landfill in northwest Perkins County. During the burglary, the suspects stole various hand and power tools, a kerosene heater, and a 2019 John Deere Gator side by side. Then, sometime between January 16 and January 20, 2020, two suspects broke into a farm Quonset and stole battery chargers and an air compressor.
Based upon video surveillance footage and prints collected at the scenes, it is believed that the two burglaries are related and involve a vehicle with very bald tires. The total loss between both crimes is around $20,000.

Shooting in Perkins County

The Perkins Sheriff's Office needs your help regarding a shooting. On the night of August 7th, 2019, a property in rural Perkins County was shot at with a firearm. The shooting occurred between approximately 8:45 PM and 8:50 PM, and it is believed that a handgun of 22 caliber to 9mm was used, as partial bullet fragments were collected from the scene.
In home video surveillance footage, a light-colored pickup truck could be seen driving by on a county road at the time of the shooting. Damage to the house included bullet holes in the siding and garage door. A pickup truck in the driveway had two of its windows shot out as well. The house was unoccupied at the time, but the total loss was around 900 dollars in damages.
Multiple Vandalisms on Wednesday June 27th

The Ogallala Police Department needs your help in solving recent Vandalisms.
In the overnight hours of June 27th, multiple suspects vandalized multiple vehicles and property along the alley north of west 5th street using spray paint. Then the suspects broke into west 5th elementary school and caused extensive damage. The estimated cost of these vandalisms will likely exceed $20,000.
Then on June 29th another vandalism was reported at the old Ogallala Middle School. Again, multiple suspects broke in and caused extensive damage estimated at $20-$30,000. It is possible that both crimes occurred on the same night.

Car Wash Thefts

The Ogallala Police Department needs your help in solving recent thefts.
Over the last 2 months both local car washes in Ogallala have been vandalized multiple times in attempts to steal money. The first incident occurred at Wonder wash at 1st and East J Street in the first week of April, at that time suspects attempted to cut locks, causing several hundred dollars damage but did not get away with any money.
Then over the weekend of May 11th both Wonder wash and Ogallala Power wash were vandalized. Again, locks were cut or picked, and this time suspects were able to steal an undisclosed amount of money from both businesses.

STATUS: SOLVEDIN LATE DECEMBER OF 2020 OPD AND KEITH COUNTY CONDUCTED A SEARCH WARRANT IN THE CITY OF OGALLALA. DURING THE SEARCH THE BOAT MOTOR ALONG WITH MANY OTHER STOLEN ITEMS WERE RECOVERED AND A SUBJECT IS IN CUSTODY REGARDING THESE CHARGES.

On Sunday February 3rd, Officers responded to a reported theft in the 900 block of West 3rd Street. At that time, Officers took a report of a boat motor that had been stolen off of a boat. The motor was a 2016 Mercury, 115 Horse Power outboard motor, valued at over $8,000. The theft is believed to have occurred sometime in the last 2-3 weeks.

Perkins County Impound Burglary
October 10, 2018
Some time between 6:30 PM on September 6, 2018 and 7:00 PM on September 7, 2018, an unknown person or persons trespassed into the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office Impound Lot. Access was made into an impounded blue-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee by smashing out the back window with a brick, which was later collected at the scene.
Once inside, a Dale Earnhardt Junior tin bucket with various automotive fluids, a white colored women’s Husker’s sweatshirt, a brown colored purse with various contents, and a blue colored purse with various contents and makeup items, were stolen. The total alleged loss for the items inside the vehicle was about 691 dollars. The window itself cost around 335 dollars to replace, putting the total loss around 1,026 dollars.
BB gun vandalisms Ogallala

The Ogallala Police Department needs your help in solving a recent burglary.
In the first two weeks of August, Officers took multiple vandalism reports to vehicles in the Ogallala area. Several windows were broken out, and other damage was done to paint. Based on investigations it appears that unknown persons used a BB gun to damage the vehicles. It is suspected that a gun that is capable of a fairly fast rate of fire may have been used, as there were some windows that had several holes shot into them. The majority of the incidents occurred on the west side of Ogallala.

Perkins County Sideby side theft
September 05, 2018
Some time between 10:00 PM on Thursday, July 12, 2018 and 7:00 AM on Friday, July 13, 2018, a 1999 Ford Superduty pickup with an attached trailer loaded with a side-by-side UTV was stolen from a farm property about two miles west of Elsie, Nebraska. Based upon evidence and prints found at the scene, the theft occurred some time after a heavy rain, and the thief was wearing approximately size nine cowboy boots.
The truck was located later that same day about three miles east and two miles south of Madrid, Nebraska, but the trailer and UTV appeared to have been hitched onto another vehicle and towed away. The same boot prints were found in the area as well.
The UTV was a camouflage colored 2012 Kawasaki Mule with a grille guard, valued at about 5,200 dollars. The trailer was a black colored 2014 Diamond C tandem axle with a ramp gate and solid sides valued at about 1,500 dollars. The trailer did not have a license plate affixed.
Other items including two tie-down straps, a DeWalt 18-volt cordless drill with two batteries, two moisture probes, a spare trailer tire, and a high-lift farm jack were stolen as well. The items were valued at about 1,680 dollars, for a total loss of about 8,380 dollars.

Sometime over the first weekend of June, between the dates of June 1st and June 5th, unknown persons broke in a Sporer Land Development tool trailer along highway 61, north of Lake Mac. The suspects stole approximately $5000.00 worth of tools and equipment. In this was a welder generator, laser levels, jack hammer packer and other miscellaneous tools.

The suspects caused nearly $1000 damage to the vehicle when breaking in, and once inside they stole multiple items including a complete stereo system including speakers, and subwoofers, a TV sound bar, a gauge pillar, and other items.

Theft of Drone

The Ogallala Police Department needs your help in solving a recent theft.
In the early morning hours of February 25, a man and woman stole a Promark brand drone, valued at $180 from the Ogallala Walmart. The male was white approximately 5’7”-5’10” with a medium build, and blonde hair. The female had a dark, possibly Hispanic complexion, and was 5’2”-5’6” with a slender build. The couple escaped through a fire exit and fled in a newer, black or dark colored Ford F-150. They were last seen westbound on Interstate 80, however it is believed that these individuals are local to the Keith County area. Do you know the suspects in this photo?
Perkins County: Theft from gravel pit

The Perkins County Sheriff’s Office needs your help in solving a recent theft.
Sometime between December 24, 2017 and January 17, 2018, unknown person(s) accessed the Foster gravel pit, operated by the District #3 Roads Department, in Perkins County located at 31760 Road 771, just inside Perkins County and about 7 miles South of Brule, Nebraska. A front end loader was used to remove approximately 200 cubic yards of dirt from the pit. The dirt was loaded on a semi-truck. It was estimated that the semi used to move the dirt took about 20 cubic yards at a time, which would have taken about ten trips from the pit to the end destination. Total loss was about $250. Tire tracks from heavy equipment were found in the pit, and semi tire tracks were found leaving the pit westbound on Road 771 and leading north into Keith County.

Chappell Feedlot Burglary
January 10, 2018
The Deuel County Sheriff’s Office needs your help in solving a recent burglary.
Sometime in the morning hours of Saturday January 6th, unknown persons broke into a shop building at the Chappell Feedlot located 1 mile east of Chappell on Highway 30. Once inside suspects stole tools including an orange air compressor, a Miller brand Welder, an Oxy-Acetylene torch, a wire welder, and numerous other tools++. Suspects also stole a white Ford F-350 with Nebraska plates 78-771A. Total losses of the crime are estimated at over $60,000.
